Day 10 – White Mountains Monday 10/10/11

Breakfast was at the Inn and we were waited on by the owner’s daughter who was a university student home for the long weekend.  She was studying journalism very nice girl and very chatty.

Just a day driving along 301 and 112 through the scenery mostly stopped and walked to the Ripley Falls it was a great hike and the falls were worth the effort.

Drove into one of the camp grounds (which appear to be everywhere) to check it out – WOW fantastic camp sites and very picturesque, would love to stay here for a week all the outdoor activities look great here.

The mountains are a spectacular site to see and the clouds race across them at approx 100 miles per hour which seems to change the view constantly.

They seem to love their old railroads and trains here and you can do scenic trips by train in most places.

At Mt Washington there is a COG railway which will take you to the summit.  Dad, Alec you would love this one, it is a 3 hour round trip to the summit.  It was the world’s first mountain climbing cog railway.  I’ve attached a couple of photos of the steam trains and yes it climbs to the top very slowly.  We did not go up only due to the time.

Tonight was spent at the Laundromat our second washing event.  Things are a little tense as I was not allowed $4.75 to wash my delicates separately – hum boys it would appear it’s one of those exotics I’m not allowed!

Dinner:  Takeaway Thai at the Laundromat
Accommodation:  The Kearsarge Inn
